NPTCLG Founder & Church History

~Celebrating the Life~

Bishop Claude Mack Meadows, Sr., was the Pastor, Founder, and Overseer of New Pentecostal Temple Church of the Living God in Humboldt, TN.

Bishop Meadows was filled with the Holy Ghost, according to Acts 2:38, at the ripe young age of sixteen. He joined Humboldt Chapel Church of the Living God under the leadership of Pastor Liza Lee Agnew. He accepted the call into the ministry and was later ordained in the Chicago State Assembly.

Having seen the old King Store building on Sixth Street in Humboldt, Bishop had a vision to start a church. He asked the owners for the building but was declined at first. After telling the owners the vision God had given him, they agreed to let him rent the building.

Being excited about the work of the Lord, Bishop, his family, and members began to make repairs to the building. A few days later, the named the church Pentecostal Temple Church of the Living God #2. It was widely known as the "Holy Ghost Headquarters." The had great musicians and grew like a wild fire.

Bishop was full of the Holy Ghost and was successful in preaching the Word of God while he was employed at the Crossing Rexall Drug Store. He later went to work in a factory, still preaching every church night and Sunday. Sometimes on Sunday, he would leave work on his lunch break to come and preach the Word. He was truly a man with a vision on a mission for Christ.

The ministry grew so fast that the man of God, along with his family, the late Barbara Inez Meadows and their children, Barbara, Claude Jr., Mary, Lori, Craig, and the members of the church went to other cities proclaiming the word of God. He started churches in nearby Tigrett, Huntingdon, Lexington, McKenzie, Dyersburg, and Hickman, Kentucky. About twelve people were baptized and saved in the name of Jesus at the start up of each individual church, growing larger from there. During revivals, many yokes were broken off of many people's lives and people were healed and set free from all kinds of infirmities. Bishop was a man that walked in the power and the anointing of the Holy Ghost.

Bishop lived with the scripture from Acts 26:22 in his heart, "Having obtained help from God, I continue until this day." Thousands of souls were saved through his ministry. He believed the Word of God was true.

Bishop Meadows and his family continued with the vision in Humboldt, until the church on Sixth Street could no longer hold the members. In 1990, the pastor and the congregation decided, that with the help of God, they would build a new place of worship. The new location would be on Highway 152 and McLin Extended. This place of worship would be built by the direction of the Holy Ghost and by move of God. And by doing this, the construction was a success. The church was renamed to New Pentecostal Temple Church of the Living God.

Bishop Meadows was no stranger to anyone he met. He helped all he could in numerous ways. People that knew him could testify of his great hospitality.

The last song he sang in the 2008 New Year's Eve Watch Meeting Service was "Got My Shoes On, Got On My Traveling Shoes." From October 25, 1936, to January 6, 2008, at three-score years and one, God called Bishop to rest. God's Word was promised and was fulfilled.
